Background

Sam is a friend of Pranaiya and Hamish from Australia, and Pranaiya herself was a big fan of Sam’s photos. This photoshoot is of a home birthing in Sydney – you can see the blow-up bath tub along with the placenta, something which most people don’t see, including mothers that have given birth.

Photographer Profile: Samantha Claire

“Since I can remember I have felt a certain pull towards photography. It's not something I can fully explain but I always loved the idea of creating art through the back of a lens. It was when I looked at certain photographs I knew it was not only a mere image captured in time but how much work went into creating such an image, a piece of art that stood in front of me. How someone could capture such beauty.

“Photography is my way of writing a story and over the years it is still something that I pour my energy and love into. Of course my other loves include my two boys Chase and Jake who keep me forever busy and on my toes, but are also my little muses. They were and forever will be the reason why I do what I do today. I thank them though for giving me the push to follow my dreams.

“I think my other love is Africa. Although I do not live there anymore, nor do I go there much now, I feel like this is how I adopted my style. Earthy, rich and moody. I don't think of it often, but on days like this where I have to write, it is definitely a piece of me and it comes through in my photographs.

“All in all I love what I do. I am passionate about it and I enjoy working closely alongside my clients to create images that I am proud of. Most importantly I want my clients to love their photographs just as much as me, if not more.”
