PAM Foundation's
"3 Pillars"

We address Perinatal Mental Health conditions through our 3 pillars

Pillar I) Awareness & Education

Pillar II) Care

Pillar III) Research

We aim to raise awareness and educate society about perinatal mental health through campaigns, exhibitions, social media, traditional media, community events, and the like.

By normalising conversations and sharing evidence-based information, we empower families and professionals to recognise and respond to perinatal mental health challenges.

We work to improve access to compassionate, evidence-based care for parents and families, with a focus in Thailand.

Through partnerships with hospitals, practitioners, and peer-support networks, we aim to strengthen systems of care and ensure that help is available when and where it’s needed most.

We collaborate with leading institutions to advance research on the causes, impacts, and solutions to perinatal mental health challenges.

Our studies help shape policy, improve care models, and hopefully develop novel treatments for Perinatal Mental Health conditions worldwide.

Awareness & Education

There is an urgent need to increase awareness of maternal mental health issues, which affect around one in six new mothers, around the world.

We use donations to

  1. Produce high quality information in both English and Thai for social media, brochures and exhibitions.

  2. Raise awareness through the extensive use of video and live media appearances on major networks like CNN and Sky News.

Care

Our aim is for all women across Thailand to have access to quality care and support for their mental health during and in the year after their pregnancy. To that end, we have:

  1. Convened round table events with representatives from government, civic society and the private sector to discuss the ecosystem needed to support maternal mental health care

  2. Funded the creation of a world class maternal mental health training program for medical professionals

  3. Delivered our first training program in Thailand, sponsoring 9 UK perinatal experts (psychiatrists and psychologists) to provide a training course to 20 Thai practitioners in June 2023 via Siriraj Hospital, Bangkok

  4. Created and run support groups for Thai parents, with the help of a network of volunteer group support leaders and lived experience mentors

Research

We are advancing our goals by supporting research in 3 areas:

  1. Physiology: Funding a multi-year study by the University of Oxford into the biological causes of maternal mental health issues

  2. Epidemiology: Supporting research in Thailand with Siriraj Hospital, titled: "Prevalence and Factors Associated with Depression in Pregnant and Postpartum Women: A Prospective Cohort Study of Siriraj Hospital"

  3. Economic: Working with London School of Economics and Thai researchers from a range of universities to understand the economic cost of Perinatal Mental Health conditions in Thailand
